Since its announcement in September, the Oris ‘ProPilot X 115’ edition has gained great press and blog coverage around the watch world due to its unique take on a skeletonised watch. This fully in-house produced movement from Oris is the latest adaptation from their calibre 110, with no dial and hollowed out movement, Oris proudly declare, “the most Oris watch we’ve ever made – every watch that went before it has led us to this point.”

Encased in the 44mm titanium watch head structure, the ‘PPX’ houses the calibre 115; a fully skeletonised hound wound movement with a massive 10-day power reserve! This patented technology is the ethos of Oris’s will to keep watch making to its purest form, by developing movements void of batteries and advancing the limits of what to expect from a mechanical product.
Despite this movement being so skeletonised, more than any other watch of such sophistication, Oris have retained an extremely sturdy structure to support the open movement inside. A great example of what they have achieved is the mainspring that is not normally visible in any other similar models. By mainspring standards, this large spring visually is great to see as it is lumberingly moves with the passing days, effectively slowly releasing the energy required to power this watch for 10 days.
A raw finish best describes this rustically handsome watch, fashioned in the iconic ‘Big Crown’ design that Oris have utilised in all their Aviation style watch since 1917. One of our favourite features is the bezel that is a subtle nod to a jet engines turbine blade. Overall this watch certainly is a great representation of a stealth plane; somewhat unassuming until you realise its full potential.
Key features to this Swiss-made watch include a multi-piece titanium bracelet with ‘lift’ clasp, as well as a domed anti-reflective sapphire crystal on both the front and case back. Superluminova is applied to all hands and indices to bring greater visibility to this watch under lowlights. Presented in an Oris watch collectors’ box with a 3-year international guarantee, this Oris will be a much sought after timepiece amongst avid watch fans.
