A tribute to one of the true legends of rock; Raymond Weil are pleased to showcase the latest watch in their ‘Music Icons’ series dedicated to Jimmy Hendrix. This year is 50 years since Hendrix’s pioneering performance at Woodstock and this is the inspiration for this limited-edition Freelancer watch, of just 500 pieces worldwide with only 80 due to arrive in the UK.
Raymond Weil have chosen their most coveted watch; ‘The Freelancer’ as the base of this handsome piece. A fully Swiss-made automatic chronograph provides plenty of substance to back up its collector’s price point. Regardless of any affiliation with the ‘House of Hendrix’, this watch is a great looking timepiece with its grey and blue tones and looks totally unique to rest of the freelancer collection.
Subtle nuances to the artist of any limited-edition Raymond Weil have been key to provide a watch that is a fitting tribute, but to not look too outlandish. This watch continues the trend with delicate details on the dial such as the Aztec pattern that represent Jimmy Hendrix’s famous Aztec patterned Guitar strap. His famous 1968 white Fender Stratocaster also inspired the ten dotted index markers that mimic the frets on his guitar neck and circular border representing the six guitar strings.
Even the cyan blue was chosen out of reason, he wore an unforgettable cyan blue ensemble on the Woodstock stage; the colour is prominently accented on the second and sub-dial hands. The back of the 42mm case also features ‘The Authentic Hendrix’ Logo emblazoned on the glass back. The case is equipped with a brown leather strap that works well with the grey dial and is fitted with a folding clasp.
To complete the overall presentation, each watch is numbered on the case back and is provided with a matching certificate of authenticity, hand signed by Jimmy’s sister, Janie Hendrix. All of this comes with the funky collector’s presentation box to help display this totally unique piece. A three-year international warranty is also included.
