In homage to the 1960’s stylings of the Autavia wristwatch, TAG Heuer have updated and re-released the collection for 2019. The cockpit inspired Autavia was originally fitted to the dashboard of racing cars and aeroplanes from 1933 to 1957. The retro styling may still be very familiar, but what lies within the watch is very different due to the ‘Calibre 5’ movement; something newly created by TAG Heuer.
Each model is distinguished through a mixture of pleasantly vintage colour tones and strap / bracelet fittings. This particular model is impeccably finished with a deep blue dial and matching ceramic bezel. Readability is a key factor in the overall design with SuperLuminova® used to ensure the three-hand design is legible day and night, whatever the condition.
Inside the 42mm case is TAG Heuer’s latest advanced movement. The Calibre 5 movement is ground-breaking set to revolutionise TAG Heuer’s future with automatic watches. This sophisticated movement easily passes COSC chronometer testing, setting a new standard for TAG Heuer.
For people who love the retro historical stylings with a mixture of modern tech, this watch has wonderful attention to detail to enhance this ethos. Featuring a tyre and propeller, the engraved caseback is a great nod to its history much like the geometry of the case that is evocative of an aeroplane propeller. Another feature of historic pilots’ watches is an oversized crown, we believe this watch verges on the right side of oversized.
This model is fitted with a brown calf skin strap with white stitching and TAG Heuer pin buckle. Presented in a branded presentation box with a two-year warranty, this watch is a brilliant example of recreating an historical watch and updating it to a level such that it too will become a piece of history itself.
